Summary:
The main topic in the fourth chapter is the question: what Jonas gets as his Assignment. From the age of eight the children get their Recreation Duty to found gradually their interestings on the different jobs. Jonas is impressed by the things his group member Benjamin has arrived. Also the chapter shows new rules like the minor rule that you should not bragging and rudeness.
In this part of the book Jonas drives to the House of Old, there he works with his friends Asher and Fiona in the washingroom. The reader gets informations about the rule that children and adults are not allowed to look at another´s nakeness, apart from newchildren or the Old. As Jonas washs an Old, Larissa, she talks about the Ceromony of the release of Roberto. Nobody knows what happens if you released. Larissa says that Roberto goes through the special door in the Releasing Room with pure happiness in his face.
So the author is building tension.. What will be Jonas' assignment? As readers, we already know it will be special.. Otherwise why is the story told through Jonas' eyes? The question is asked from the moment we read the title: who or what is "the Giver"..?
ReplyDeleteRelease - That sounds like an interesting aspect of the book in the way you describe it. What kind of feeling do you have about this idea that is not specified in the first chapters? It must be a cool thing if people are happy to be released!
